i5's Shipping Finally
Probably the first bit of good news in months. A whole heap of i5 backorders have shipped as promomised from Apple Sydney (The Apple Store) We have lost more shipping this week with the massive backlogs nationwide slowly being covered - After speaking to Apple today, they are clearing all backorders nationwide this week and next with all being covered by the end of next week.  Apple Announcement - the iPad is unveiled 28/1
The Apple announcement completed in the U.S. on 27 Jan, with Apple CEO Steve Jobs introducing the long awaited Apple iPad. This is Apple's entry into the 'Netbook' market seemingly integrating a lot of very cool technology and lessons learnt from the iPhone plus the very first, all-touch screen portable computer. There will be some different models available, all with 25cm screens. A Wi-Fi / Bluetooth version and on with the additional 3G capability allowing browsing anywhere.
iPad weights a mere .68Kg for the Wi-Fi model and .73Kg for the Wi-Fi + 3G model. It uses a custom designed Apple A4 chip to make it 'work' and has an estimated 10 hour battery life quoted at 10 hours actually 'doing stuff' rather than in some benchmark idel mode.
Resolution is a pretty amazing 1024 x 768 allowing full page web browsing, reading maagzines, books, newspapers (if that resolution means nothing to you, it's basically the same as what used to be a good sized desktop PC screen - 17" only a few years ago...)- a display of that quality in a device that measures a mere 24.2mm x 18.9mm is just unreal.
iPad contains all the gadgets of the iPhone - accellerometer, light sensor, Audio / Video, Digital Compass and therefore will set Application developers on fire with this much more usable interface now available to play with.
iPad also has a very cool docking station option and used the Apple 30 pin dock connector.. It is the thinnest, lightest, no moving parts at all Netbook available in the world today.
iPad will be available in 3 sizes - 16Gb, 32Gb and 64Gb varieties and in Wi Fi only and WiFi + 3G. Pricing in US dollars will start at a mere $499. Release date in the U.S. has now been set to March 12th with Australian and rest-of-world release 'end of April'. As soon as we have product codes and pricing, and if the Apple Pro Dealer network are able to sell the iPad, (which Apple didnt allow us to do with the iPhone), then we will have a pre-order section on the website for you...
